My name is Gordon Scholefield and as the Head Teacher of Brookdale I am pleased to introduce the school to you.
This website has been designed to provide information about the school, if you would like to find out more then please do not hesitate to contact us to arrange a visit.
The school currently has 4 classes in Key Stage 1 and 4 classes in Key Stage 2, with a total of 227 children. In addition the school also has an Education Inclusion Base, which meets the needs of pupils identified by the Local Education Authority as requiring specialist provision. The class is for a maximum of 12 Key Stage 2 pupils. Inclusion is an important feature of our school and we all work hard to ensure pupils with special educational needs are made to feel part of our school community.
The staff at Brookdale are committed to achieving the highest possible standards in all aspects of school life. We are proud of our pupils' achievements and take every opportunity to celebrate success as a whole school as well as in the wider community. In 2004 we achieved a "Health Promoting School" award and educating the children to lead a healthy lifestyle is important to us. We offer many after-school clubs and take part in many inter-school sporting events. One of my own interests is running and I still compete in local events, although I am much slower than a few years ago!
Preparing the children to become responsible citizens of the future is also an important part of life at Brookdale. The School Council and Circle Time provide opportunities for the children to talk about issues that are of concern and every year we present a "Citizenship Award". The school achieved Artsmark in 2007 and the International School Award in 2008.
In conclusion I hope you find the website interesting and informative
